LOOK: Syndicated Estafa ang Ikakaso sa Gabriela Leader dahil sa Pagtangay ng P8-M noong Sept. 21 Rally Budget

A group of people who joined the September 21 Martial Law anniversary rally filed syndicated estafa charges against CALABARZON Gabriela leader Wilma Catibog.

The group’s lawyer, Atty. Eslao Alcantara told local reporters on Monday that Catibog and her family fled their home in Bauan, Batangas on September 22 carrying at least P8 million.

Alcantara said the money was supposed to be given to people she brought to Manila a day before to join in the Martial Law anniversary rally. The money was said to have been provided by a local politician belonging to Liberal Party.

Catibog was said to have left her home hours before the scheduled time to distribute the money on Tuesday.

More than 2,000 protesters and at least 2 dozen organizers were promised to receive P2,000 each, and P10,00 for each organizer.

“Yon din lang ang inaasahan ng mga tao itinakbo pa.”, Alcantara said.

More than 500 people went to Catibog’s house on Tuesday but returned home after learning that the leader was not available.

At least 300 people went to Batangas City police, and later to Batangas Regional Trial Court on Monday to file syndicated estafa.

The lawyer did not name the politician who provided the money but hinted that the said politician was extremely angry when he learned that Catibog took the money away.

Several others who knew the leader personally suspected that she returned to Romblon, but no information about her whereabouts have been confirmed as of press time. /Julio Matagay/
