According to Sen. Binay who grilled PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar, the fighting for fake news is difficult because Asec. Uson who accused by publishing fake news on her Facebook page is still in the government.
Several Senators wanted to asked Uson several questions, but Secretary Andanar explained that the PCOO Asec. is in New York with Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano to attend the 72nd Session of the U.N General Assembly.
Andanar also defended Uson and explained that her Facebook page which considered as one of the biggest Fan pages in the Philippines does not reflect the views of his office.
“With the issue kay Asec Mocha Uson, nagkaroon po kami ng agreement, actually siya mismo nagsabi na ang kanyang Facebook page ay sa kanya lamang at kung anong sasabihin niya ay kanyang sariling opinyon at di po ito reflective sa PCOO.” Andanar said.
Andanar also added that Uson gained the trust and confidence of the President and even let the PCOO Asec. to visit sensitive places together with Duterte.
But Senator Binay who became an internet meme several years ago, was not convinced by the explanation of Sec. Andanar.
She said that the main problem of PCOO in fighting fake news is Uson.
“So I guess yun yung nagiging dilemma mo, how would you balance things,” she added.
This statement of Nancy Binay became viral and shared by thousands of netizens. She also got support from the critics of Mocha.
In response, Asec. Mocha Uson used her Facebook page to respond to the attacks of Senator Nancy Binay against her.
In her post, Uson said that she didn’t wanted to argue with the Senator on the allegations against her.
She said that the accusations that she published fake news on her Facebook page is just a propaganda to destroy her reputation.
Uson also added that if she made some mistakes in her past post for not following the ‘standard’ of being a journalist, atleast she didn’t stole money from the people.
“Pero ito lang yan. Kung nagkamali man po ako sa post ko dahil sa hindi pagsunod sa “standard” ng pagiging journalist pasensiya na pero at least kahit kelan hindi ako nagnakaw sa bayan ko. Kayo po mam?? Nagtatanong lang po.” Uson said in her statement.
The Binay family faces several graft charges, because of their connection to the controversial Makati City Hall Parking Building II which allegedly overpriced.
Senator Binay also accused by former Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado of receiving kickbacks to her father who’s the former Mayor of Makati City.
The senator repeatedly denied all the allegations against her family and she maintained that they are clean and not corrupt.
As of writing, Senator Nancy Binay is not yet giving any comments on the statement of Asec. Mocha Uson.
