Sign Now: Petition To Rename NAIA Back To Its Original Name Manila International Airport (MIA)

An online petition surfaced in social media to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Manila International Airport (MIA).

The petition title is “Rename NAIA back to its original name Manila International Airport (MIA)”.

Roy Domingo started the petition three days ago and now it has reached 6,719 supporters. The petition is said to be submitted to Sen. Gordon, Se. Zubiri, Sen. Pacquiao, President Duterte, Philippine Congress, People of the Republic of the Philippines.

Back in 1987, Manila International Airport (MIA) was renamed to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) through Republic Act No. 6639 which was enacted without executive approval on November 27, 1987.

Reading RA 6639, one can’t find a valid reason why the country’s main airport should be named after Ninoy Aquino, Jr., who was a former senator and convicted in 1977 by a military court of subversion and murder. Thus, Ninoy Aquino is not a hero or patriot for inspiration and emulation of this generation and generations still unborn.  He was clearly a POLITICIAN and by naming the Philippine’s main airport to his name is an insult to all Filipino heroes who died for the country and not for political ambition.

Now, we, the People of the Republic of the Philippines is urging the Philippine Congress, through Senators Dick Gordon, Migz Zubiri, and Manny Pacquiao as co-authors, to repeal RA 6639and rename NAIA back to its original name Manila International Airport (MIA).
